SAVE EL PUEBLO VIEJO
Santa Barbara's city
height limit initiative
SAVE EL PUEBLO VIEJO — the citizen campaign to save our historic and much loved Santa Barbara, to give Santa Barbara voters a chance to choose their city's building heights.
Over-development, neighborhood-dwarfing buildings, 60 feet tall, as on Chapala Street, threatens to destroy what residents and visitors love about Santa Barbara.
Santa Barbara's “small-town feel,” its quality of life, its respect for history is why we live here. It's a primary reason why visitors visit. Why come to Santa Barbara if it looks just like everyplace else?
We have gathered signatures for a ballot measure to add a sentence to the City Charter: Maximum heights in the downtown core, El pueblo Viejo, are to be 40 feet and 45 feet maximum throughout the city. (The 30-foot height for single/two family zones will remain unchanged.) Click here for the text of the initiative and here for a map of present building heights in the City of Santa Barbara.
